2017 was a year to remember at Tailored Films. From world premieres, to new team members, to even more adventures in the world of horror, we loved this year from start to finish. Our highlight of 2017 was undoubtedly the world premiere of The Lodgers at the Toronto International Film Festival in September. The film was shown in the Contemporary World Cinema category of the festival which was a testament to its universal audience appeal. Following TIFF, The Lodgers went on to have a slew of successful screenings at festivals internationally, appearing most notably as the closing film of the world renowned Sitges Film Festival. The Lodgers won Best Film at the Molins de Rei Horror Film Festival as well as Best Actress and Best Special Effects at the Fancine Festival de Cine Fastastico. Thanks to its international festival success, we’re pleased to announce that the film has sold worldwide and we’re really looking forward to seeing it hit cinemas in 2018.
Pre-production is well underway for our next feature film, The Winter Lake. We are delighted to say that the project will be co-funded by the Creative Europe programme of the European Union. We were the only Irish production company to be awarded this European grant for drama feature film development in May 2017. Our film slate expanded significantly in 2017 with three of our new features receiving development funding from the Irish Film Board. The first of these projects is Black Unicorn which will be a reprisal of our partnership with the amazing David Turpin. Black Unicorn explores radical ideas of gender and non-gender through the form of a science-fiction-thriller. Our second project is Hive Mind, a grisly horror about a young girl on the cusp of adulthood who has unwittingly been chosen as a vessel for a strange mutant species. Our most recent project to be awarded development funding is KIN, a dark thriller about a woman struggling to conceive meeting a mysterious woman who promises her a fertility treatment…. but the price may be deadly.
2017 was a big year for new jobs in Tailored Films as we took on three new staff members across development and production roles. Disaster film aficionado Eithne joined us as a producer working on our film, TV and corporate projects, Studio Ghibli obsessed Rioghnach joined us as a development executive, contributing to the advancement of our ever growing film and TV slate, and Star Wars buff Niamh joined us as a script development associate acting as the gatekeeper for our new creative projects. The corporate side of Tailored Films was busier than ever this year with new clients coming in from the scientific, educational and not-for-profit sectors. In house animator Oisin created some really enaging animated content for clients new and old, including the below video for QQI.
With new TV, film and corporate projects going into development and our next feature The Winter Lake going into production, we cannot wait for 2018. To all our clients, collaborators and audiences, we’d like to wish you a very Merry Christmas and an amazing New Year!
